The question
Does our team need a safer space to speak honestly, reflect, and rebuild trust?
When a team faces a difficult concern, the instinct is often to move quickly toward solutions. But a solution can become shallow if people have not first understood what is happening, what is being felt, and what the real concern requires.
Before solving anything, create a space where people can speak honestly without blame or embarrassment.
Prepare the conversation
Begin with a clear purpose: we are here to understand before we decide. Agree that people may speak from their experience, listen without interruption, and distinguish facts, assumptions, and fears.
Ask questions that open the room
What is happening from your point of view? What has been difficult to say? What is the impact on the work and the people we serve? What do we need to understand before we propose solutions?
Listen for recurring patterns, not only individual complaints. Notice where trust, clarity, support, or responsibility may need repair.
Move toward a responsible next step
After honest seeing, ask what can be improved now, who must carry the next step, what support is needed, and when the team will return to learn from what happened. Dialogue is not a delay in action. It is part of responsible action.
